Last week saw the release of the long anticipated Mina the Hollower, a game that had been in development since 2022. Originally slated for a Halloween release last year, it got pushed to May 29, where it finally dropped to critical acclaim. Now though, Yacht Club Games has shared that the commercial side is performing incredibly well too, as the indie Zelda-like has sold over 300,000 copies in just three days.
The report comes from Jason Schreier at Bloomberg, who received word directly from the developers to confirm the numbers shared. However, despite the Mina the Hollower‘s high performance in both sales and reviews, studio co-founder Sean Velasco said he hopes to sell more, as he wondered “how come the best-reviewed game of 2026 is not the fastest-selling game”, continuing that he feels “a big fire lit to close that gap.”

Mina the Hollower launched at just $20, and has topped the Nintendo eShop charts consistently since its debut, outperforming Nintendo’s own titles in the past week. Yet, the 300,000 it sold in three days is a far cry from other huge sales milestones this year, like Resident Evil Requiem that sold 5 million units in five days. Of course, the scope of these two releases is hugely different, yet it’s still something Velasco aims to catch up with as time goes on.
For those unfamiliar, Mina the Hollower is a love-letter to the Zelda games of the Game Boy Color era, fused with inspiration from Disneyland’s darker experiences like The Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Carribbean to create an eerie yet colorful and charming action-adventure. The chunky pixel art presentation and color palette also both serve as a stylistic reference toward Nintendo’s old handheld hardware.
We’ll be sure to keep reporting more on the future of Mina the Hollower, especially after our glowing 9/10 review. For more on all the latest indie game news, check back often to GameObserver.
