If you haven’t heard of Meccha Chameleon yet, you probably have been living under a rock recently. The game has taken the world by storm and is one of the newest additions to the “friendslop” category, joining other games such as Peak and RV There Yet? According to Alinea Analytics, the game is 2026’s best-selling game by number of copies, achieving this in three weeks since release.
In case you aren’t familiar, Meccha Chameleon is a spin on Prop Hunt (a fanmade game mode across many games, originally created for Team Fortess 2, in which players transformed into physical objects to hide while seekers, armed with guns, looked for them on a timer) and Hide and Seek. Players are able to pick their body size and shape, use different poses to blend in, and paint themselves to blend into their surroundings to hide from seekers.

The game was made by two developers in just two months, and it has continued to excel on Steam. The game has now made $71.3 million, and the game is now pushing 16 million copies sold. The game originally was priced at $4.99 but then had a slight bump up to $5.99 as the game continued to gain popularity.
The public perception of the game has been extremely positive, noting both high playability and high watchability. The game has a “Very Positive” review status, with 87% of over 50,000 reviews in the past month being positive. The game reached a peak of 340,534 active online players just under a month ago, and is currently averaging around 70,000 players at any given moment, according to SteamDB. From the same statistics, Meccha Chameleon’s Twitch viewership peaked at just over 31,000 concurrent viewers in the last 24 hours.
