If you’ve been waiting for Stellar Blade on Nintendo Switch 2, there may not be much longer to wait. The game has now received its official Mature 17+ rating from the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB), a step that usually happens when a game is close to release.
The Nintendo Switch 2 version has been rated M for Mature 17+ because of Violence, Blood and Gore, Strong Language, and Suggestive Themes. The published rating also suggests that Shift Up has kept the game’s content the same as on other platforms instead of making major changes for Nintendo’s console.
According to the ESRB, the game includes female characters wearing revealing outfits, including “deep cleavage” and “skintight, flesh-toned body suits,” while “breasts jiggle during combat.” In addition, the rating notes that the word ‘sh*t’ appears in the game. It also describes fast-paced melee battles featuring blood effects, dismemberment, close-up decapitations, and impalement scenes.
This official rating is another sign that development is almost complete. While Shift Up previously said the game would launch in late 2026 during the June Nintendo Direct, receiving its final ESRB rating suggests the game is now content-complete and getting ready for release. Although an exact release date has not been confirmed, the ESRB rating strongly suggests that an official announcement could be coming soon. In other news, Shift Up has confirmed Stellar Blade 2 will be revealed later this year and will self-publish the game, hinting at a multi-platform launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. In addition, Shift Up has acquired Unbound, the new studio founded by Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami, to “create games that will change the world.”
