We’re searching for more writers to join our team at GameObserver.
We’re looking to grow our team so that we can cover a wider range of games and become established within the industry as a hub for gaming news, reviews, analytical insights, thought-provoking think pieces, and guides.
We want to deliver high-quality and creative journalism written by humans for humans. While other outlets are using AI to generate a high quantity of pieces as quickly as possible, we want to focus on quality and offer unique insights and tone of voice in our pieces. While SEO is important for growing our website, we also won’t prioritise it over allowing our writers to be creative and keep their unique tone of voice – at GameObserver, we won’t over edit your articles to remove its personality to please the SEO machine. The use of AI to generate content is also strictly prohibited on our team.
If you are:
Passionate, about playing videos games and also writing about them
Punctual, you can meet tight deadlines and still deliver high-quality work
Reliable, you like to put in your all consistently and work with a team to grow a project
Accurate, you leave no stone unturned and work with precision, ensuring all information has been verified
Grammar-obsessed, you’re eye has twitched a few times when you’ve spotted incorrect grammar, punctuation or a spelling mistake in a published work
Then we would like to hear from you!
Experience
We don’t expect applicants to have ten years of experience writing for IGN, all we ask is that you share examples of articles you have written related to the gaming industry. These need to be a form of article that you would be interested in writing for GameObserver, such as a news piece, review, or feature. This could be anything from an article you have written for another outlet, or something you’ve produced for a personal blog or even schoolwork – anything that you think best represents the work you would be doing for GameObserver. You could even draft an example piece specifically for your application, it only needs to be a few paragraphs long to give us a good idea of your writing capability.
About The Position
This position is a freelance position. We expect our writers to produce at least two articles a month in order to stay as an active writer. This can be anything but a review, including short news pieces.
Staff are paid a small rate per article, which won’t pay your bills but will act as a bonus for producing content for us. The rates at GameObserver are regularly reviewed in line with site performance, and any time that the website’s traffic increases and stabilises, staff rates will increase too so that everyone benefits when the site is performing well.
Team Culture
Staff communications take place over Discord, which also acts as a space where we can casually chat about what we’re currently playing, the industry, our lives, and, most importantly, share pictures of our pets. Our Discord and team culture is welcoming and inclusive, with many of us forming friends for life across the globe – which is both touching and also makes for some expensive wedding invitations.
