Subnautica 2 Sells Over 4 Million Copies In Just Five Days

After breaking all franchise records by reaching over 400,000 concurrent players within 30 minutes of its Early Access launch, developer Unknown Worlds Entertainment has officially announced that Subnautica 2 has now surpassed four million copies sold worldwide just five days after launch.

The game launched into Early Access on May 14 and quickly reached major sales milestones, selling one million copies in its first hour, passing two million copies within 12 hours, and reaching the four million mark by day five. The game also reached a peak of 467,582 concurrent players on Steam, nearly 10 times higher than the all-time peak of the original Subnautica.

Player reception has been very strong as well. At the time of writing, Subnautica 2 has a “Very Positive” rating on Steam, with 91% positive reviews from more than 73,000 user reviews.

Unknown Worlds also shared a message thanking players for the support, saying, “We’re incredibly grateful for the response from players around the world. Seeing millions of players dive into this new world during Early Access has been an incredible moment for the team. Community feedback continues to help shape the future of Subnautica 2, and we’re excited to keep building the experience together with our players.” It is also worth noting that the game is available on Xbox Game Pass, meaning many players accessed it through the subscription service. This means the total player base is actually much higher than the four million copies sold.

If you don’t know much about the game, “Subnautica 2 is the official sequel to the genre-defining Subnautica series, which has sold more than 18.5 million copies worldwide. Set on a new alien world within the Subnautica universe, the sequel introduces new ecosystems, enhanced visuals powered by Unreal Engine 5, and for the first time in the series, optional co-op for up to four players, allowing players to survive and explore together.” For more Subnautica 2 related coverage, keep checking GameObserver.
