Resident Evil Requiem Sold 5 Million Units In Five Days, Breaking Franchise Records

The newly released Resident Evil Requiem has been a massive hit. With high player counts and immense discussion on social media, we were all expecting big sales numbers for the ninth entry in the Resident Evil series. Capcom has finally shared an update on how the game is performing, and the figures are big: Resident Evil Requiem sold 5 million units in its first five days.

This is significant news, as it’s actually the highest launch sales for any Resident Evil game in history. The closest that could compare is Resident Evil 6, which at launch sold around 4.5 million copies. Since then, the series has been a hugely successful one and sold big numbers with each subsequent release, but never to this level on launch before.

The immense success of Resident Evil Requiem has broken series records.

The giant explosion in sales can likely be attributed to two key factors. Firstly, Resident Evil Requiem was available on multiple platforms from day one, with the release on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch 2 and PC all happening simultaneously. As for the second key factor, Requiem sees the return of series icon Leon Kennedy as the protagonist, alongside the new lead Grace Ashcroft. Whilst she is an original character, she’s also the daughter of an existing protagonist in the Resident Evil universe, giving her bonus credibility amongst the fans.

Selling five million units in less than a week also puts Resident Evil Requiem in Capcom’s Platinum List, its catalogue of titles that sold over a million units. Whilst the list hasn’t been updated on their website yet, Requiem‘s sales debut already puts it within the top 20 games, and it’s sure to raise much higher as time passes.
