The all-new Capcom original that is Pragmata has been seeing huge success around the world following its April 17 launch. Within just 16 days since its release, Capcom just announced that the sci-fi adventure has already sold over two million units. This is an enormous success for a completely original game, and one that Capcom is already looking to become a potential new franchise.
Within the first two days after launch, Pragmata had already sold a million units. It took an additional two weeks to shift an additional million copies following its launch, enabling the game to double its sales total within just a month following its release weekend.

Capcom attribute the success of Pragmata to its expanded brand awareness through “marketing initiatives” like the early demo Pragmata Sketchbook which allowed playeers to get a taste for combat, exploration and hacking in a small slice of the game experience.
Beyond its planned marketing, Pragmata has also been the source of intense discussion online which had also increased awareness toward its launch. As a completely new big-budget game, in an industry that’s quite fond of existing IP, Pragmata is also a stand-out for those looking to support new and original game ideas.

It’s not just a success within the commercial realm, but also with its audience. We gave it a 9/10 in our review, describing it as “powerful” and replayable. Over on Metacritic, it has an average of 85 based on 100 other critic reviews, showing a clear opinion amongst critics that there’s plenty of good to be found in Pragmata.
The 2 million units sold within a month are a solid sign that there’s a future for Pragmata as a franchise. For the latest updates as Capcom moves forward with its series, be sure to check back often to GameObserver for the latest.
