New Witcher 3 DLC Announced For 2027, More Info Soon

Earlier this morning, a few perceptive CD Projekt Red fans spotted a new, clearly unintended announcement popping up on the studio’s proprietary REDLauncher. A few hours later, the studio decided to cut the speculation after months of rumors and leaks, and announced that a brand new The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt expansion pack is in production. Titled Songs of the Past, it is set to debut in 2027, with more information being revealed later this summer.

In a follow-up comment, they admitted that the reveal was originally planned to occur during tomorrow’s REDstreams, advertised as a special celebration of the Blood and Wine expansion pack’s anniversary. People quickly jumped to the conclusion that the DLC would be shown during it, and they would have been right if not for this forced, premature announcement. Alongside this, the official Witcher accounts revealed an update to minimum system requirements for the base game on PC.

We were originally supposed to find out about Songs of the Past during a streamed celebration of the Blood and Wine expansion, released 10 years ago on May 31

Interestingly, Songs of the Past is being co-developed by Fool’s Theory, creators of The Thaumaturge, who are also currently working on The Witcher 1 Remake with CD Projekt Red. This fact, alongside the title of the expansion referring to events of old, could potentially imply that the expansion pack focuses on the stories of past games.

During the development of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, parts of the game that referenced old games had to be cut from the final release, such as a story involving Iorveth—a major character from The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. Meanwhile, the only major acknowledgment of the first Witcher comes in the form of a short sidequest called “Message from an Old Friend.” Though it’s just pure speculation, the new expansion pack could tie up a lot of the trilogy’s loose ends. The image used for the reveal shows little more than Geralt unsheathing a sword, a humanoid tree monster behind him, and a bit of burning fire peeking from the bottom left. Worth noting is the fact that the sword he holds is not one of his two main weapons, as both are already on his back, meaning it must hold some significance.

We won’t have to wait long to see more, as we’ll likely get a more substantial announcement during the aforementioned stream, which will take place May 28 at 5 PM CEST. Plus, even more info is likely to come during one of the many events and showcases surrounding the upcoming Summer Games Fest. We will report on it all as it comes out, so be sure to keep checking GameObserver!
