You can now jump back into two of the most popular Call of Duty games, as Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 have officially made a surprise launch on the PlayStation Store for PS5 and PS4. Developed by Iron Galaxy Studios with Activision and Treyarch, these are direct ports of the original PS3 games, not remasters or remakes.
You can now buy both games on the PlayStation Store, and PlayStation Plus members can get them at half price for a limited time. Each game normally costs $39.99, but PS Plus subscribers can buy them for $19.99 until August 6. After that date, both games will return to their normal price. Players can also buy each game’s Season Pass, which normally costs $29.99. During the promotion, PS Plus members can get it for $9.89. The passes include multiplayer maps, Zombies maps, and calling cards.
Both ports include the full Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies modes from the original releases, giving players the complete experience. However, these versions do come with some limits. Since they are direct ports, they do not include remastered graphics or modern features such as 120 FPS support, field-of-view (FOV) sliders, or cross-platform multiplayer.
While the launch discount makes the games more attractive, the pricing remains a point of contention, given the fact that these are direct ports without any major visual or gameplay upgrades. It’s also worth noting that some of the features have been removed. Theater Mode and Wager Matches are no longer available in Black Ops, while League Play has been removed from Black Ops 2.
In other Call of Duty news, the franchise is returning to Nintendo after more than a decade with Modern Warfare 4. While some players had doubts about how the game would run on the console, Infinity Ward says it runs “pretty smoothly” on Switch 2 and that there are “no problems to report.”
