Sony Santa Monica has officially confirmed that God of War: Laufey, its upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive, will receive a physical disc release. When the game was first revealed, the biggest question was when the game would launch. While there is still no official release date, the latest announcement gives fans a much better idea of the timeline.
After promoting the studio’s God of War: Laufey panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Santa Monica Studio’s comment section was quickly flooded by fans who were angry about PlayStation’s new move away from physical games. To calm the situation, the official account released a short statement, saying, “We can confirm God of War: Laufey will be available on disc.”
Because Sony will stop producing physical discs for new PlayStation games in January 2028, God of War: Laufey must launch before that deadline. This also matches recent reports from Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, who said that God of War: Laufey is much closer than many fans expect, “isn’t years away,” and could be targeting a release in the first half of 2027.
