Call of Duty: Black Ops And Black Ops 2 Officially Coming To PS4 And PS5 In July

After Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 were listed by South Korea’s ratings board last month, speculation grew that the games were heading to PlayStation consoles. Treyarch has now officially confirmed that both titles will launch on PS4 and PS5 next month.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Treyarch revealed that the two games are set to launch sometime in July, although an exact release date has not yet been announced. The ports are being developed by Iron Galaxy Studios, a developer known for working on major ports and adaptations, including The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, The Last of Us Part I, and many more. They said, “It’s official: the original Black Ops and Black Ops 2 are being ported to PlayStation in July, courtesy of our partners at Iron Galaxy.”

No new Xbox version of Call of Duty: Black Ops or Black Ops 2 was announced.

Treyarch confirmed that both titles will include the full campaign, multiplayer, and the original Zombies mode. It’s also worth noting that fans should not expect major changes. These releases are direct ports, not remasters or remakes. The original graphics and gameplay will remain largely the same, although there could be improvements to resolution and frame rate on newer hardware.

In addition, the announcement only covers PlayStation platforms. No new Xbox versions have been announced because both games are already available on Xbox consoles through backward compatibility. No new PC versions have been announced either. As for pricing, Treyarch has not yet revealed how much the games will cost or whether they will be sold separately or together in a bundle. We’ll be sure to keep you updated here at GameObserver as soon as more information becomes available.

In other Call of Duty news, the franchise is returning to Nintendo after more than a decade with Modern Warfare 4. While some players had doubts about how the game would run on the console, Infinity Ward says it runs “pretty smoothly” on Switch 2 and that there are “no problems to report.”
