This week seems to be really exciting if you are a Call of Duty fan. Just a few days ago, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 was announced, and now there is even more attention on the series after Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 officially received brand-new age ratings in South Korea, which often happens shortly before a game is re-released or announced for new platforms.
The ratings were approved by South Korea’s Game Rating and Administration Committee (GRAC), which has led to speculation that an announcement involving the two classic games could be coming soon. Both games received a “Not Available to Minors” rating. According to the classification board, the decision was based on excessive violence, including realistic gunplay, as well as vulgar language and other mature content that the series is known for.

Interestingly, the applications were officially submitted by Blizzard Entertainment on May 21 before receiving approval. The listings also include the classification identifier “CC,” which refers to the Console Category, suggesting that whatever is being planned is likely related to console platforms.
The most likely possibility is that the Black Ops 1 and 2 are preparing to join Xbox Game Pass. With Microsoft recently changing its Game Pass strategy and removing Call of Duty day-one releases, adding classics like Black Ops 1 and 2 could help make the service feel more valuable.
Another possibility is that these ratings could be linked to potential current-generation remasters of the two games. After all, the original Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2 both received remastered releases, which makes it seem even more likely that the Black Ops series could receive the same treatment. That said, all of this remains speculation for now, and it should be taken with a pinch of salt. As more information becomes available, we’ll make sure to let you all know here at GameObserver.
