Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 was finally unveiled yesterday, with Activision confirming that the game will launch on October 23. However, one of the biggest surprises from the announcement was the confirmation that the game will also release natively on Nintendo Switch 2, bringing the Call of Duty franchise back to a Nintendo platform for the first time in 13 years.
While the news was welcomed by Nintendo fans, some players had doubts about how the game would run on the Switch 2. Given the technical demands of Call of Duty titles, there were concerns that the Nintendo version could face performance issues. However, Infinity Ward has now addressed those concerns. In a recent interview with VGC, Infinity Ward studio head Jack O’Hara said that getting the game running on Switch 2 was much easier than expected. He stated, “To be honest, it’s been pretty seamless. We got the hardware, then we got the game up and running pretty quickly, and now it’s just about optimization and performance.”

Infinity Ward also confirmed that the Switch 2 version will include full cross-play and cross-progression support with PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, which will allow players to continue their progress and play with friends across all platforms. Talking about the cross-platform experience, O’Hara added, “In our play test, people play it against the other platforms, and it’s super fun. It’s actually been pretty smooth. There are no problems to report.”
Finally, O’Hara spoke about the team’s excitement over bringing the series back to a Nintendo platform after more than a decade. He said, “It’s exciting to be back on a Nintendo platform. It’s always fun to come out on a new platform – especially a portable platform… but for us, Nintendo is super exciting.”
In other Call of Duty news, Warzone is officially ending support for PS4 and Xbox One, with the game set to be delisted from digital storefronts on June 4 before last-gen servers shut down completely on October 23.
