Static Hour will have the player head to a small town set in the 1980s where they’ll live through a night shift of a news editor on one of the most enthralling, terrifying nights that the town has ever seen. In this newsroom, they’ll get to decide what stories will run, which is what will be broadcast to the general public. What seems to be so hard about picking which stories will be broadcast, you may think? It’s the weirdest night in the tiny town’s history, as a violent outbreak erupts on the streets.
As families viciously maul each other, the government has issued a lockdown, making the entire town panic. They’ll be tuning into the local news station for any information. You will use the analog technology of the 1980s throughout the night as you attempt to listen to emergency alerts, the police scanner, and the anxious public calling into your station. It is up to you and you alone to find the truth about what is happening and decide what should end up in the broadcast.
Not only do you have to find the stories, but you also need to verify any information you come across as the truth while obeying the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) rules while broadcasting. The town will react solely based on what you decide to broadcast throughout the night. Your newsroom is capable of figuring out the truth behind this mystery and setting the public free by allowing them to hear what you have found throughout the night by using your Rolodex, CRT monitors, rotary phones, and radio scanners.
