The explosive next entry in the Call of Duty franchise has been revealed, and it’s the long-awaited Modern Warfare 4. A sequel to the Modern Warfare reboot trilogy which themselves were inspired by the old Modern Warfare trilogy, Modern Warfare 4 pushes the narrative into new and original territory.
Releasing on October 23 for PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2, Microsoft are making a splash with this announcement as it’s their first Call of Duty title releasing on a Nintendo platform since the Wii U era. The Call of Duty franchise entirely missed the original Switch, but Microsoft’s 2023 acquisition of franchise owners Activision came with the promise of expanded multi-platform support, which will finally be realized with Modern Warfare 4.
Picking up after the events of 2023’s Modern Warfare 3, the globe-trotting adventure focuses on a conflict between the border of North and South Korea, also taking players to Paris, New York City and other worldwide locales for more bombastic action the series is best known for.
Speaking to XBOX Wire, Associate Design Director Alex Norris says Modern Warfare 4 follows the “Infinity Ward Style” of following “awesome set piece moments” that seek to make “every other mission […] feel different from the one before it”, with Narrative Director Jeff Negus saying the team will “lean back into what it is that put this on the map in the first place and how can we reinvent what that is.”
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23, and will retail for $70 with its standard edition or $100 for the Vault Edition, which comes with Open Beta early access, new skins for Black Ops 7 and Warzone, along with two Operator Packs with four skins in each for Modern Warfare 4, a Signature Weapon Collection, the first BlackCell Season Pass and more.
