Ubisoft Job Listing Mentions Generative AI Tools, Then Removes It

Ubisoft has found itself under fresh attention after a job listing quietly changed its wording, and people quickly noticed. The company recently updated several job ads to include experience with generative AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude, but those references were later removed and changed.

As spotted by Tech4Gamers, the situation started with a listing for a Technical Art Director. It originally said candidates should know tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Copilot, along with scripting languages such as Python or Maxscript. This stood out because the role is linked to art and creative work in game development.

Ubisoft is looking to integrate generative AI across its development processes.

At the same time, other Ubisoft job listings also began asking for experience with generative AI agents to help with development tasks. After these listings spread across social media and gaming forums, Ubisoft reportedly updated them to remove mentions of specific tools. This quick change led to strong reactions. It raises concerns that AI could replace creative roles or reduce originality in games, and there is also concern that overuse of these tools could result in content that feels repetitive, lacks depth or ultimately becomes “AI slop”.

Ubisoft has already shown interest in using AI in development, but the topic remains sensitive. The gaming industry has seen ongoing debates about how these tools should be used and where the limits should be. Some, like the Take-Two CEO, say AI can help with development but not replace humans, because it is not capable of true creativity.

The job listing did not mention any specific project or usage case, so it remains unclear how Ubisoft plans to use these tools. This situation comes at a time when the company is facing challenges both internally and externally, with recent titles like Star Wars Outlaws failing to meet expectations, along with ongoing cost-cutting measures and internal restructuring that have put several major projects and studio teams at risk.

In other AI news, Warhorse Studios, the developer behind Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, is facing significant backlash following allegations that it fired a key translator to replace their role with artificial intelligence.
