Kingdom Come Studio Accused Of Replacing Translator With AI To Cut Costs

The English translator for Warhorse Studios, known for working on the Kingdom Come: Deliverance series, has said that he was dismissed after nearly four years with the company, and that his role is being replaced by AI. The claim comes from a Reddit post on the Kingdom Come subreddit, and while it has not been officially confirmed, a moderator there has reportedly verified the user as an employee.

Max H, who handled Czech-to-English translation, said in a post on Reddit that he had been working with the studio “since July 2022 as a Czech>English translator and editor. I primarily worked on KCD2 and its DLCs, including dialogues, quest logs, item names, and various other things, as well as some occasional marketing materials.” He added, “Simply put, if you’ve ever played KCD2 in English, you’ve quite likely seen my work.”

A Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 translator says he was laid off to “save finances.”

According to his statement, on March 27 he was called into a meeting without warning and informed that his position would no longer be needed. He said the company told him that, in order to “make the company more effective” and “save finances,” his role would become “obsolete” starting next month, and that AI would be used for all future translations.

“This came as a huge shock to me,” he said, explaining that the use of AI in translation had been discussed often and that he had opposed it, “but never to the extent that it might actually cost me my job.” He also shared that he had considered the possibility before but believed that his work “at WHS was valued enough that I might not be at immediate risk,” and that he felt “incredibly betrayed by the management of the company I’ve come to care about greatly these past almost 4 years.”

He warned that the growing use of AI in the industry can negatively affect workers, adding that people “should know how much the company that makes the games you love value the work of their employees.” He also made it clear that he will not break his NDA, as that could cause further problems for him. At the same time, he stated that he does not plan to take legal action or try to get his job back, but said, “you can be damn sure I won’t keep quiet about my experience.”
