Santa Monica Studios brought Faye and Kratos to San Diego Comic Con to talk more about the upcoming God of War: Laufey as well as reveal a little about Kratos’ future. Deborah Ann Wolf and Christopher Judge also attended the event, along with Head of Creative Cory Barlog and God of War: Laufey Director Ariel Lawrence, to give a few more details since the game’s official reveal last month. The panel began with Cory Barlog announcing a new Kratos-led God of War game that will release after God of War: Laufey. Barlog also revealed that the game will connect to God of War: Laufey. Along with plans for the franchise, the panel saw the reveal of a release date for God of War: Laufey set for February 16, 2027.
“Everything we are doing in the Faye game is a continuation of what came before and to set up and expand what comes next,” Cory Barlog said during the panel. Barlog wanted to see an extension and expansion of the world where characters we meet are unexpected. Deborah Ann Wolf talked about how honored she was to be involved with the franchise and how she watched videos of God of War 2018 for six hours straight after being offered the role of Faye for God of War: Ragnarok. Wolf referred to Faye as ‘Faye McClane,’ a nickname in a nod to John McClane from Die Hard, because she saw Faye as a reluctant hero, someone saving the day when all she wants is to get back to her loved ones. Christopher Judge said he felt that Faye “was the genesis of the change of Kratos”. “So much of the message in the first two games was about hope and forgiveness and being better. I think that all started with Kratos’ relationship with Faye.”

Jack Quaid and Perlina Lau rounded out the panel, with both discussing their excitement for God of War: Laufey. The two actors play new additions Phranque and Rue, the cube and sword that were revealed in the Laufey announcement trailer. Not much was revealed about either character, but Cory Barlog did say that Phranque “has been around since the beginning,” with Quaid adding that Phranque doesn’t know a lot about his past.
Sony continues to focus heavily on God of War in recent years, with the franchise seeing a release back in March of God of War: Sons of Sparta. The game developed by Mega Cat Studios currently sits at an OpenCritic score of 65. On top of God of War: Faye and the newly announced Kratos follow-up, Santa Monica Studios announced the development of remakes to the original God of War trilogy back in February, with original Kratos voice actor T.C. Crawford set to return to the role once more.
