Sony Does Not Rule Out Another PS Plus Price Increase

For those hoping PlayStation Plus prices won’t go up again, Sony’s latest comments may not be the news they wanted to hear. The company is not saying another price increase is happening right now, but its executives have made it clear that raising subscription prices is still something Sony is willing to do to grow profits.

During a recent meeting with investors, Sony Interactive Entertainment executives spoke about the future of PS Plus and said the company always tries to balance the value of the service with what players have to pay. They said, “PS Plus offers strong value to players, and we continually balance that value against customer cost. We are using multiple levers to improve profitability, including pricing, tier mix, and content acquisition efficiency. Higher tiers now account for 40% of subscribers, which reflects strong demand for the service. PS Plus remains a key driver of profitability, and we achieved record-high PS Plus profitability in FY2025.”

Sony already raised PS Plus prices in May.

That means pricing is still one of the tools Sony can use to make more money from the service. Executives also pointed out that 40% of PS Plus users are now subscribed to the more expensive Extra and Premium tiers, showing investors that many players are willing to pay more for higher-level plans.

Sony also spoke about its spending on servers for cloud gaming. When asked how it plans to recover those costs, they replied, “We expect to recover the costs associated with investments and operations through revenue generated from PS Plus, which provides the streaming service.”

It is also worth noting that PS Plus already went up in price in May. For now, Sony has not officially announced another PS Plus price hike. Still, its comments sound similar to the kind of statements often made before subscription prices are raised again.
