It looks like price increases are becoming more common lately. Just last month, Sony raised prices for almost all PlayStation hardware worldwide, with some models becoming up to $150 more expensive. Now, PlayStation is increasing prices again, this time for PS Plus subscriptions.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Sony confirmed that PlayStation Plus prices for new customers in selected regions will increase starting May 20 due to “ongoing market conditions.” The changes only affect the Essential tier, with the 1-month and 3-month plans increasing in price, while the prices for all Extra and Premium tiers remain unchanged.

Here are the updated prices:
- 1-Month Subscription: $10.99 USD / €9.99 EUR / £7.99 GBP (previously $9.99 / €8.99 / £6.99)
- 3-Month Subscription: $27.99 USD / €27.99 EUR / £21.99 GBP (previously $24.99 / €24.99 / £19.99)
It’s also worth noting that current subscribers will keep the same price for now. But if someone cancels their subscription, lets it expire, or changes to another plan, the new prices will apply right away. In Turkey and India, though, even current subscribers will still see a price increase, no matter which plan they already have.
As mentioned earlier, Sony has not announced any changes for the Extra or Premium PS Plus tiers, meaning those plans will stay at their current prices for now. This could be simply because Sony wants the jump from Essential to Extra to feel less expensive, which may lead more users to choose the higher-tier plans.
In other news, Sony has filed a new patent for an AI system that could automatically turn PlayStation gameplay clips into highlight videos for social media. In addition, the company is testing a new PS5 feature that shows the most-played and trending games in your country, giving players an easier way to check which games are popular on the console, similar to Steam.
