New Uncharted May Be In Development As Lost Legacy Director Drops Hint

It is quite disappointing for fans that since the release of the PS5, Naughty Dog has not released a single brand-new title and has instead focused mainly on remakes and remasters. It has now been nearly ten years since Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End was released, and for many PlayStation fans, that feels like far too long without a new title in the series. But after a decade of silence, fresh hints have once again given fans a bit of hope that Uncharted may finally be making a return.

The latest rumors picked up after Vinit Agarwal, former director of the cancelled The Last of Us Online, said in an interview that Naughty Dog had at least two single-player games in active development when the multiplayer project was cancelled. He added that he continued working on one of those titles for another year before leaving the studio.

Naughty Dog has not released a new Uncharted game in nearly a decade.

This has led many fans to believe that one of those projects could be a new Uncharted game, especially since Naughty Dog is already known to be working on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. The speculation grew even more after Shaun Escayg, director of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, shared an image on Instagram with the caption “Research…”

The place in the photo appears to be Fort George in Trinidad and Tobago, a historic site in the Caribbean. The photo also included an old cannon, which strongly matches the treasure-hunting and exploration style that defines the Uncharted series.

Because of this, many now believe Escayg could be researching locations for a new entry in the franchise. While PlayStation and Naughty Dog have not confirmed anything yet, the recent interview and Escayg’s post have given fans a bit of hope that Uncharted may finally be preparing for a return. For now, all of this remains speculation, but as more news and rumors emerge, we’ll be sure to keep you updated here at GameObserver.
