Halo Studios Q&A Reveals New Halo: Campaign Evolved Details

Halo: Campaign Evolved is set to launch next month on July 28. The title was featured at the Xbox Games Showcase earlier this month and was well-received by both the Halo fanbase and newcomers to the series. In a recent Q&A post, Halo Studios confirmed details about this new Halo: Combat Evolved remake. Earlier today, we reported on how PlayStation players will need a PS Plus subscription to play split-screen. However, Halo players are also a bit disappointed following some of the newly revealed details from the Q&A.

Theater Mode has been one of the most important features in the Halo series. It allowed the community to create Machinima, a video creation form that has been around in gaming since the Halo 3 days. HaloBoxStudios, a Machinima group that has collaborated with Halo Studios, says that “not having a theatre mode makes the creation of machinima MUCH more difficult for not only the seasoned makers, but especially the newbies.” Theater Mode is also a great way to capture the perfect moment for modern content creation: “Without theater mode support, content creation, creative movies and gifs will be significantly harder and less people will do them,” states LateNightGaming, a Halo content creator.

Some weapons from later Halo games, like the energy sword, will be available to players for the first time in the series first entry.

Lack of Theater Mode wasn’t the only news that had Halo players disappointed. The popular Stanchion weapon, which Sergeant Johnson is seen using in the trailers and demos, will not be available to players. Popular Halo YouTuber, HiddenXperia, wrote in a post, “in what world do you FINALLY add the Stanchion (prob the most requested Halo weapon EVER) to a game, make it such a big focus in a trailer, even going as far as giving it its own introduction cutscene where Johnson unboxes it and shows it off…AND NOT LET US USE IT?!?!?” Additionally, personalized customization of Master Chief won’t appear in the game’s cutscenes, which leads to a question: what is the point of paying for skins in the first place? Just the third-person skull, in which we can only see the back of the skin? Some of the other revealed details include:

  • To apply Skull modifiers in-game, you will need to find and collect them first.
  • The Collector’s Edition is officially sold out, and there are no plans for restock.
  • Players can turn off in-game hitmarkers.
  • The Mark IV armor will be usable only in the bonus missions.
  • No plans for future DLC, Firefight, new Skulls, more customization, etc.
  • No plans for a public Demo.
  • You can play the prequel missions before playing CE missions.
  • The backpack reload button glitch will continue in a skull that mimics the behavior.
  • The mission difficulty will scale appropriately depending on how many people you have in your lobby.

After these new details, however, many players remain excited for Halo: Campaign Evolved. The game is also still one month away, so it’s yet to be seen if Halo Studios takes action on the feedback from this Q&A. For more Halo coverage, stay tuned to GameObserver.
