Cyberpunk 2077 had a rough launch when it was released in December 2020. Since then, CD Projekt Red has spent years improving the game with updates and the Phantom Liberty expansion. While those efforts helped win back many players, the studio believes some people still haven’t regained trust in the company.
In a recent interview, CD Projekt Red co-CEO Michał Nowakowski said the company has not fully completed its recovery from the troubled launch and admitted that some players permanently lost trust in the studio after the game’s release. He said (from GamesRadar), “I’m not 100 percent convinced we went through the full redemption arc. I’m convinced that we lost the faith of some people indefinitely, and that’s a fair thing.”

Nowakowski said that period was difficult for the studio, especially because CD Projekt Red had built a strong reputation with players over the years. While Cyberpunk 2077 has since sold more than 35 million copies and earned positive reviews after consistent updates, the problems at launch are still remembered by many fans.
However, CD Projekt Red now hopes The Witcher 4 will help rebuild confidence among players and show that the company has learned from its mistakes. “But I do hope we will be able to make it back – if not with The Witcher 4, then with whatever comes next,” he added.
Currently, the studio is working on The Witcher 4, while also developing Cyberpunk 2, a remake of the original The Witcher, and several other projects. Among them is Project Hadar, CD Projekt RED’s first original IP, which has recently moved beyond the concept stage and entered conceptual prototyping as part of its pre-production phase. While release dates for these projects have not been announced yet, we’ll make sure to let you guys know here at GameObserver as more information becomes available.
