Final Fantasy VII Rebirth On Switch 2 Has Sold Out At Square Enix Store

This past week featured a Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase event, as third-party releases for the Switch 2 were unveiled for the world to see. One of the most significant reveals was the announcement of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth coming to Switch 2 this summer, following the huge success of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade releasing on the system last month. Pre-orders for the standard physical edition went live on the Square Enix store just a few days ago, and it appears that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth for Switch 2 has already sold out. It will surely be restocked before its launch on June 3, but it’s an impressive feat nonetheless.

Game director Naoki Hamaguchi seemingly confirmed this over on his X (formerly Twitter) page, sharing a post discussing the sold out release and adding a double exclamation mark emoji for emphasis. It’s a surprise to see a standard edition release of a game sell out so fast, but with the demand that was created with the Switch 2 release of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, it seems Square Enix’s decision to take their games multiplatform is paying off.

The expansive open world of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is heading to Switch 2, and the demand is high.

It’s worth noting that there’s perhaps another reason for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth selling out so fast on the Square Enix store. Physical Switch 2 copies of the second part in the VII Remake project come with an exclusive Magic: The Gathering card that’s available only to those buying the game physically on Switch 2. The card is only a variant of an existing uncommon card, but featuring unique artwork of Zack Fair, it’s sure to generate some demand within the card-collecting community.

Square Enix seems to be rebuilding their relationship with Nintendo around the Final Fantasy series in a big way. Whilst their bond began to falter following the release of the original Final Fantasy VII, it’s great to see the two Japanese companies working together again – and it’s always good to see new audiences playing Final Fantasy for the first time!
