Ubisoft has officially confirmed that the Assassin’s Creed franchise has now sold more than 250 million copies worldwide since it first launched in 2007. This achievement puts the series among the best-selling video game franchises of all time, alongside names like Grand Theft Auto.
The new milestone came after the successful launch of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. The game sold more than two million copies in its first 24 hours across all platforms, making it one of the fastest-selling games in the series. The game also set a new franchise record on Steam, reaching a peak of 99,451 concurrent players. It even sold faster than Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which took two days to pass the two-million-player mark.

Assassin’s Creed series has clearly grown into one of the biggest names in gaming since the first game arrived in 2007. Over the years, the franchise has expanded with games such as Black Flag, Unity, Valhalla, Mirage, and Shadows, releasing across multiple platforms. The company described Assassin’s Creed as “one of the best-selling series in video game history. Recognized for having some of the richest, most engrossing storytelling in the industry, Assassin’s Creed transcends video games, branching out into numerous other entertainment media.” It also pointed out that the franchise has gone beyond games with projects such as the Assassin’s Creed movie starring Michael Fassbender.
Sales figures shared through ResetEra also show how important the franchise has been in recent years. Between 2020 and 2022, the series sold around 45 million copies. However, sales slowed in the following years, with only about 10 million more copies sold between 2022 and 2025.
In other news, Ubisoft is reportedly developing a remake of the original Assassin’s Creed, which may be the company’s next remake after the release of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced.
