Dying Light: The Beast Canceled For PS4 And Xbox One Due To Technical Limits

If you were planning to play Dying Light: The Beast on PS4 or Xbox One, there’s some bad news. Techland has officially canceled both last-generation versions, saying the older consoles simply cannot handle what the game needs to deliver.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the developer explained that the PS4 and Xbox One do not have enough processing power or memory to support the game’s large “open world, advanced visuals, and fluid combat”. According to the studio, continuing development for those platforms would have meant making major cuts that would hurt the overall experience.

Dying Light: The Beast launched for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S in September 2025.

They said, “Dying Light: The Beast was built from the ground up to take full advantage of current-generation hardware. Its open world, advanced visuals, and fluid combat and traversal all depend on processing power and memory that previous-generation consoles simply cannot provide. As development progressed, it became clear that bringing the game to those platforms would require compromises that would prevent us from delivering the experience we set out to create.”

In short, Techland didn’t cancel the PS4 and Xbox One versions on purpose. Instead, the studio wanted to make sure the game delivered the best experience possible on the platforms that could run it properly. “This was not a matter of choosing to leave those platforms behind. Rather, it reflected the technical realities of development and our commitment to delivering the best possible experience,” the studio added.

It’s also worth noting that the players who pre-ordered Dying Light: The Beast for PS4 or Xbox One can request a full refund. This also includes players who bought the Dying Light 2 Ultimate Edition on PS4 or Xbox One, as they were supposed to get the game with their purchase.
