Sony decided to port Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 to PlayStation on July 9, 2026. While players were initially ecstatic at the news, there have already been some issues with the game.
The ports received plenty of attention, having launched with a 50% discount for PS Plus owners, despite them not including any major visual or gameplay upgrades, as well as removing Theater Mode and Wager Matches from Black Ops, and League Play from Black Ops 2. The ports for both games enabled cross-play between PS4 and PS5 players. Season Pass holders were also able to queue up with those who did not own the Season Pass. This seems to have been a great move for Sony, with players rushing to get the ports and start playing.

However, players on the PS4 port soon realized that there existed an exploit where you could max the prestige on any gun instantly. Many players complained that this was ruining lobbies and the game’s integrity. Other players reported that hackers had the ability to reset accounts to Level 1 or even below that, forcing the affected players to make new accounts if they wanted to play multiplayer again. Activision has confirmed on X through @CODUpdates that certain playlists are now disabled while the issue is being investigated.
In other Call of Duty-related news, ads for the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 doubled down on making sure players are aware the game will not launch on Xbox Game Pass. Meanwhile, the game’s Nintendo Switch 2 port appears to be doing well, running smoothly on the platform with no reported problems.
