Following the success of Mafia: The Old Country, which sold over 1.2 million copies, Hangar 13 now appears to be moving forward with two major projects. The studio is said to be actively developing both a direct sequel to Mafia: The Old Country and a full remake of Mafia II, signaling a strong return for the franchise after its recent revival.
Mafia Game Videos on X (formerly Twitter) has gathered multiple clues pointing to these upcoming projects, bringing together different pieces of information about the future of the series. Among these findings are earlier comments from the game’s director, Alex Cox, who described The Old Country as “a soft reboot” of the franchise. This approach helped reset the series while staying connected to its roots, and the return to early 20th century Sicily was widely seen as the right move after Mafia III did not meet expectations.

Support for a sequel also comes from Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, who praised the game’s performance and confirmed that sales had exceeded expectations, making a follow-up more likely. Actress Carina Conti, who played Isabella Torrisi, also suggested that a new project has already been approved, raising the possibility of her character returning in the sequel.
The same findings also point toward a Mafia II remake. Unlike the 2020 Definitive Edition, which was closer to a remaster, this new version is believed to be a full remake built from the ground up. One of the key clues is that developers have reportedly been recording World War II-era weapon sounds, which usually match the time period of the game they are working on. Since Mafia II takes place just after World War II, this detail supports the idea that a remake of that game is in development.
It’s worth noting that none of this has been officially confirmed, and these are still theoretical claims based on multiple clues. For now, it’s best to take everything with a grain of salt. That said, with major events like the Xbox Game Showcase coming up, there’s a chance we could hear something soon. As more news and rumors emerge, we’ll keep you updated here at GameObserver.
