Rockstar Reportedly Won’t Send Out GTA 6 Review Codes

With Grand Theft Auto 6 getting closer to its November 19 launch date, reviewers are already waiting to see how and when they will receive game codes before release so fans can get early impressions of the game. However, a new rumor suggests Rockstar Games may handle the review process very differently this time.

The information comes from Brazilian journalist Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe during the “X do Controle” podcast. According to him, Rockstar is preparing a secure system designed to stop gameplay details from appearing online early. Lutti Lippe said, “Nobody is going to get the key to this game. It looks like there’s going to be some kind of review event. They’re going to send the journalists, stay for days, so there are no leaks. Like, everyone’s going to play this indoors.”

GTA 6 pre-orders are rumored to open on May 18.

Instead of sending digital review codes like most game publishers usually do, Rockstar could invite selected journalists, reviewers, and content creators to private events where they can try the game. The gameplay sessions would reportedly be closely monitored for several days, with everyone playing at private locations under strict supervision to help prevent leaks. In other words, there will be no remote review copies, meaning no reviewer or media outlet would get a game code to play at home before release.

As mentioned earlier, GTA 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, although its final price has still not been announced yet. Rumors suggest the game could cost more than the standard AAA price of $70, though many players may not mind paying extra, with almost 40% saying they would be willing to pay as much as $100 for GTA 6, according to a survey. Meanwhile, players waiting for GTA 6 pre-orders to open may not have to wait much longer, as the pre-orders could reportedly begin on May 18 following a leaked Best Buy affiliate email that appeared online.

As always with rumors like this, it is best to take the information with a pinch of salt since neither Rockstar Games nor parent company Take-Two Interactive has officially confirmed anything yet. As we get more information, we’ll make sure to let you guys know here at GameObserver.
