The exact cost of GTA 6 is still not officially confirmed, but we now have a clearer idea of how big the project really is. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick recently said the game was “expensive” and a very costly project, even if he did not share the final numbers.
According to analysts mentioned by Business Insider, the development cost alone is believed to be between $1 billion and $1.5 billion. This already makes it one of the most expensive games ever made. However, even with these huge costs, it is widely expected that Rockstar and Take-Two will recover the money very quickly. The hype around GTA 6 is massive, and it will most likely sell millions of copies right after launch.

This huge budget is also easier to understand when looking at Zelnick’s comments. In another interview with Bloomberg, he described GTA 6 as a “high-stakes game for big boys only” and said that Take-Two gives its teams “unlimited financial” and creative resources to reach the best possible result, which explains why the costs have gone so high.
While the final price has not been confirmed yet, Zelnick recently spoke about the strong speculation around it. He explained that the company aims to offer a “value delivery” that clearly exceeds what players pay, adding that “our job is to charge way, way, way less” than the actual value of the game, so players feel the price is fair compared to the overall experience.
GTA 6 is currently scheduled to release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, while a PC version has not been announced yet. As its launch gets closer, many developers are starting to adjust their release plans, with some reportedly delaying their games so they don’t release too close to GTA 6 and get overshadowed.
