Rockstar Games is once again facing a serious cybersecurity issue, as the company has officially confirmed that it was affected by a new data breach linked to a third-party cloud service. According to The CyberSec Guru, the hacking group ShinyHunters allegedly accessed Rockstar’s data and issued a ransom threat, reportedly giving the company a deadline of April 14 before moving forward with leaking the stolen information.
The reported method of access is particularly notable. ShinyHunters claims it gained entry through Snowflake cloud services, allegedly using a third-party cost-monitoring tool called Anodot. If this claim is accurate, the breach did not happen directly through Rockstar’s own internal systems, but rather through an external service connected to its cloud infrastructure.

Rockstar has already confirmed the incident, stating, “We can confirm that a limited amount of non-material company information was accessed in connection with a third-party data breach. This incident has no impact on our organization or our players.” The company’s statement suggests that the breach is limited to non-material corporate information, while also reassuring players that the incident has not affected user accounts or player data.
The allegedly stolen material may include GTA VI marketing plans and release schedules, along with financial data and player spending trends. It may also include contracts with partners, voice actors, and music labels, as well as outsourcing information and internal company documents. As Rockstar shared though, player account credentials, passwords, or payment information such as credit card details have not been compromised.
This marks the second major attack on Rockstar in recent years, following the 2022 breach by Lapsus$, which led to the leak of GTA VI development footage and source code. In that case, Rockstar moved quickly and took legal action against those responsible. For more Rockstar Games related coverage, keep checking GameObserver.
