Rockstar’s Cancelled “Agent” Protagonist Found Hidden In GTA 5 Files

New information has surfaced about Rockstar’s cancelled spy game Agent. The project, first announced in 2009 as a PlayStation 3 exclusive and rumored to be set during the Cold War, was never officially released despite years of rumors and leaks. After years of silence, findings from the leaked Grand Theft Auto V source code may have revealed the game’s protagonist hidden within them.

The discovery was first spotted by GTAForums user XanaBax, who found a polygon model labeled “player” hidden among the files. According to the findings, the character model closely matches the protagonist seen in screenshots that leaked more than a decade ago.

The discovered character model closely matches previously leaked screenshots of Agent.

To support the claim, the character’s textures were compared with Niko Bellic from Grand Theft Auto IV. The comparison showed clear visual similarities, with some parts appearing to be edited versions of Niko’s model. The character was also reportedly found in a folder named “Jimmy,” believed to be the internal codename for Agent, further strengthening the theory that the model belongs to the cancelled title.

It is likely that Rockstar may have reused assets between GTA IV and Agent, which would make sense given that both projects were being developed around the same period using the RAGE engine. Using Niko Bellic’s already detailed character model as a base would have been a practical way to save development time, and it also helps explain the similar facial structure and overall visual style seen in the leaked files.

It’s worth adding that the game went through five different iterations before Rockstar Games eventually cancelled it, including one version set during the 1970s Cold War and another in modern times. This makes it even more unfortunate that the game never saw the light of day, given the extensive work done. The discovery of a model labeled “player” suggests the project may have been much further along in development than previously believed, with at least one fully playable version potentially having existed at some point.
