In their recent financial quarterly report, Nintendo gave us updated sales numbers for many releases in their library of hits. However, one recent game in particular was missing, with Metroid Prime 4: Beyond not getting an update throughout the report. As Nintendo conventionally announce games that cross a million sales, this led to fan speculation that the game hasn’t sold well enough to warrant an update. Now though, Nintendo just issues a response.
Speaking to Game File journalist Stephen Totilo, Nintendo confirmed that Metroid Prime 4 has sold over a million copies when taking into account sales from both versions of the game. This means that across the Switch and Switch 2 Editions, which count as separate releases, there have been more than a million units sold. However, this also suggests truth to our original speculation that neither individual platform was yet to surpass a million units sold for Metroid Prime 4 by themselves.

This is good news for fans of the Metroid franchise, as Metroid Prime 4 was released in December, giving it a very small window to have already sold over a million units, and yet it has. Whilst it didn’t fly off shelves to the point of having a million copies sold on just one platform or another, it’s still shifting units and earning money back for Nintendo after its troubled development cycle. It still has a while to go before it can catch up with the 3 million total sales from Metroid Dread, but maybe with time it’s possible that Prime 4 can catch up – or maybe at least take second place below the current reigning Metroid best-seller.
