Every Thursday, Famitsu releases a weekly chart breaking down how physical boxed games and hardware sold in Japan. This week’s chart covers March 16 to 22, and it tracks the third week of Pokémon Pokopia on sale. In an incredible display of demand, weekly sales of the boxed version of Pokémon Pokopia fell by just 2% in its third week on sale, an abnormally strong hold for a game that’s almost a month old.
This week, Pokémon Pokopia managed to sell an additional 114,000 boxed copies in Japan, despite it already selling 117,000 last week and 540,000 copies on launch the week prior. Usually when we’re tracking Famitsu chart data we see stronger drops for even the popular games, as the first two weeks usually contain the bulk of a game’s initial audience. The sales for Pokopia dropping by just 2% thus indicates that there’s a lot of demand for the life simulation game, and it’s not dropping yet as time passes. Supply constraints were reported following the game’s launch, which could also explain its continued popularity.

This week also saw the debut of Crimson Desert on PS5, which sold 31,000 copies on PS5. The console also slightly rose in weekly sales to 14,000 units, but it’s still trailing behind even the base Switch’s 18,000 sold consoles within the same period.
