Cory Barlog Planned A God Of War Game About Laufey Since 2018, Says Faye Actress

When God of War Laufey was revealed, many fans were surprised to see a game focused on Faye instead of Kratos. But according to actress Deborah Ann Woll, the project has been planned for years. In a recent interview with CGMagazine, Woll said Santa Monica Studio creative lead Cory Barlog first pitched the idea around the release of God of War in 2018.

She also revealed that she has been keeping the project secret for almost a decade. She said, “I still pinch myself. You know, again, I’ve known about this for nearly ten years, and I haven’t been able to talk about it.” According to Woll, Barlog already had a clear vision for the game long before most fans even knew who Faye was. She recalled that when she was first introduced to the wider God of War universe, evidence of the project was already sitting in his office.

God of War Laufey doesn’t have a release date yet.

She added, “When Cory brought me in to talk about doing Ragnarök and show me the 2018 game, he already had a poster for the Laufey game with me and a cube. A cube that’s been there since the beginning. It’s deeply a part of the lore.”

Woll also says that she sometimes worries about whether fans are interested enough in her character to support an entire game built around Faye. Those concerns, however, disappear when she sees the work being done by the development team. She explained, “Moments where I go, “Nobody wants me here. What am I doing? Nobody cares about this character.” Like, your brain does terrible things, right? I’ve never felt that way on this set. There’s just something about the supportive environment and the creative intent, right? They want everything to be great and purposeful, and it’s just exciting to be a part of that.”

In other news, while Sony did not reveal a release date for God of War Laufey, reliable journalist Jason Schreier claims the PS5 exclusive is much closer than many fans expect and “isn’t years away.”
