It looks like fans may not have to wait as long as expected for God of War Laufey. While Sony has not confirmed a release date yet, a new rumor suggests the game could launch in early 2027.
PlayStation and Santa Monica Studio revealed the game with a 20-minute gameplay trailer during the June State of Play, but they did not share when it would be released. However, Bloomberg journalist and industry insider Jason Schreier believes that the announcement could be coming soon. Speaking during a discussion on his YouTube channel, Schreier said the game is much closer than many people think. He added, “I wouldn’t be surprised if that gets announced for February or March [2027] pretty soon.”

According to Schreier, many game publishers are changing their release plans to stay away from Grand Theft Auto VI. Instead of launching close to one of the most highly anticipated games of all time, several major titles are moving into the first few months of 2027 so they have a better chance to get players’ attention.
It’s also worth noting that this isn’t the first time Schreier has made this claim. Earlier this month, he also said that God of War Laufey is much closer than many fans expect and “isn’t years away.” If his claim is correct, the first quarter of 2027 will be packed with major releases, including Lords of the Fallen 2, Fable, Stranger Than Heaven, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, and many more. It remains to be seen whether God of War Laufey can stand out among these releases, especially considering it is one of Sony’s biggest upcoming games.
