After teasing their player base with the “high visibility vest” emoji last week, Hello Games has released their 6.2 update, titled “Remnant,” for No Man’s Sky.
The update adds new functionality options for player Multi-Tools in the form of the “Gravitino Coil,” a gravity manipulation device allowing players to lift various objects and set them down, or launch them long distances. It can also be used to grab hold of Sentinels and use them as improvised projectiles against other Sentinels. The update also adds new customization and functionality features to the Colossus exocraft, the “giant truck” of the game. Players will now be able to choose different styles of locomotion from off-road tires to caterpillar treads to “half-track” options, as well as changing the body style from boxy truck to flatbed hauler to mobile waste disposal unit. New functionality options such as the Cyclops Scope will give players the option to scan the area much like the Multi-Tool Analysis Visor without having to leave the vehicle, while the Excavation Blade puts on a bulldozer-style front loading bucket to allow players to gather resources just by driving through them.

In addition, players will also be able to undertake a new Expedition event to help teach them the ropes for all of the new technologies, as well as familiarizing them with the new Waste Processing facilities and Volatile Scrap resources which require a delicate touch when loading them into a Colossus. Unlike most Expedition events, this one is localized to a single planet, and your only means of transportation will be a Colossus. No flying around, no visiting the Anomaly, just you and six weeks of working as a long haul trucker on an alien world. But it’ll be worth it; the Expedition rewards will include new titles and a whole new outfit customization.
Aside from the new toys, technical updates and bug fixes have been released as well. Nintendo Switch players will finally be able to build their own Corvettes (released in a previous content update). Quality-of-life improvements particularly relating to clouds have also been made among other updates. And new Twitch drops will be available starting February 12. The update features and full patch list can be found here. Keep watching GameObserver for future updates to No Man’s Sky.
