MindsEye is one of the most talked-about releases in recent times, not because of its quality, but because of its many bugs and the controversy surrounding it. The situation has included claims of sabotage, public disagreements, and sponsored streams from content creators to promote the game.
Build a Rocket Boy’s CEO Mark Gerhard recently gave an interview to GamesBeat, where he made several bold claims about the game’s reception. Gerhard said that MindsEye has very positive reviews. However, this does not match the scores currently seen on Metacritic, where it has a critic score of 39 and a user score of 2.6. He also claimed that sales “are increasing organically, doubling almost weekly.” This statement has raised questions, with some wondering how strong those sales numbers actually are.

At the same time, Gerhard did admit that the bugs that affected the game at launch, including crashes, were the studio’s responsibility. He said, “Having done in total 72 games in my life, I’ve never worked on a game that was completely bug-free. We’ve obviously listened to that feedback and continue to invest in the game. So you know, without doubt, it gets better month on month or update after update.”
Gerhard then returned to the studio’s earlier claims of sabotage. According to him, there was an organized effort to create a negative narrative around the game to stop it from finding success and building its player base. He stated, “We’ve identified parties involved, and it’s now with the authorities both U.K. and U.S. to deal with. I can confirm that they’re assisting us with this investigation, but it’s also in their hands now. We’ll leave them to do what they do.” The studio has also promised new content for the game, including a multiplayer update and a new mission featuring a female character called “Blacklist.”
MindsEye is currently available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
