Last month, Shift Up CEO Kim Hyung-tae confirmed that Stellar Blade 2 would only be shown publicly once it reached “good form,” and now the studio has officially started sharing new details about the project. In its latest earnings report, Shift Up confirmed that it will self-publish the sequel, officially ending its previous publishing partnership with Sony.
The move is important because the original Stellar Blade launched as a PS5 exclusive. This time, however, the company says it wants to “maximize sales and reach a broad global audience from day one,” strongly suggesting that the sequel could launch on several platforms at the same time.

The decision also comes after the first game achieved strong results on PC, selling one million copies in just three days, which may have convinced Shift Up to launch the sequel on more platforms from day one instead of keeping it limited to a single system.
Now that the studio is publishing the game on its own, Shift Up will have full control over when and where Stellar Blade 2 launches. Because of that, the sequel is widely expected to launch on PC from day one, with possible ports for Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 as well. Shift Up also confirmed that more details about the game will be shared “within the year,” adding that development is “progressing smoothly” and continues to meet the company’s “targeted quality standards.”
Besides Stellar Blade 2, the studio also talked about other upcoming projects, including Project Spirits, another title that has reportedly been in development for a long time. More information about it is expected to arrive in the coming months. As for the release dates for these games, nothing official has been announced yet, but as more news and rumors emerge we’ll make sure to let you know here at GameObserver!
In other news, Shift Up has acquired Unbound, the new studio founded by Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami, to “create games that will change the world.”
