The first Stellar Blade was a huge success, first on PS5 and then later on PC. Despite that, Shift Up openly admitted that the game had a weak story. The studio said that the sequel aims to make up for this with a stronger narrative, and it now seems to be taking a more careful approach overall, with CEO Hyung-Tae Kim stating that Stellar Blade 2 will not be revealed until it reaches “good form” and the quality level the team wants.
In an interview with 4Gamer, Kim explained that the development of Stellar Blade 2 should “move slowly and carefully,” and that from the outside it may sometimes seem like nothing is happening, even though the team is actively working on it. He added, “We are working very hard on production, and we want to show it to you when it is finished in a good form.” Evidently, Shift Up wants the sequel to be fully ready before any full reveal rather than showing it too early, a worrying trend in gaming that saw titles like The Elder Scrolls 6 be revealed eight years ago without a single word on it since.

It’s worth noting that the game was previously said to be in the Research & Development (R&D) phase in 2025, although it has likely moved beyond that stage by now, with development already well underway in 2026. Additionally, Shift Up seems to be preparing to transition from a studio focused on timed exclusives to a multiplatform publisher. While the original game remained a PlayStation exclusive for 18 months, Stellar Blade 2 is reportedly being developed as a multiplatform title, targeting a simultaneous launch on PC and PS5 in order to “broaden audience reach.”
Currently, not much information is known about the sequel, such as the release date, but according to the Kim, “The time has come when you can have a little bit of expectation,” so fans may finally have reason to start expecting an official reveal soon.
Beyond the sequel, Shift Up recently acquired Unbound, a studio led by Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami, with plans to “create games that will change the world.”
