Grand Theft Auto VI Price Confirmed, No Disc Version At Launch

With reservations for Grand Theft Auto VI fast approaching, Take-Two Interactive this morning announced pricing for both the regular edition and Ultimate Edition of the game. The regular edition of the game will be sold for $79.99 USD, with the Ultimate Edition being sold at $99.99 USD, ending the long-running speculation of the game and the price tag it will carry. Pre-ordering the $99.99 USD ultimate edition will come along with the Vintage Vice City Pack, a “collection of items that flash back to when the neon burned brightest,” according to Take-Two’s press release. You will also get a free month of GTA+.

Along with pricing news, it was announced that the physical copies of Grand Theft Auto will not come with a disc, offering instead a digital download code inside the box, a practice becoming more common in recent years. Additionally, the announcement came with new screenshots and a specific mention of the game’s single-player experience. The announcement does not mention the very popular GTA Online experience, suggesting that this current mode will stay as is at launch.

This pricing news comes on the heels of rampant pricing rumors and speculation. The latest came just this week as Portuguese FNAC pricing suggested a potential 89.99 to 199.99 euro price tag. The $79.99 USD actual pricing for the regular edition continues a trend of AAA games increasing in price, going above the $69.99 USD price tag that only recently became standard for most new releases. Nintendo released Mario Kart World at $79.99 USD just last year. With Mario Kart World selling 14.70 million copies as of March 31 sales data and Grand Theft Auto VI potentially setting its own sales records, the $79.99 USD pricing on AAA releases may soon become a new norm faster than many may want.

Grand Theft Auto VI Pre-Orders start June 25th at midnight local time, with a release date of November 19th on PlayStation 5 and Xbox. With both consoles, GTA VI will release on receiving price hikes in the last year, one of the most anticipated games this console generation will be an interesting test to the health and well-being of the industry as a whole.
