After Fable and several other major games shifted their release plans, Lords of the Fallen 2 has become the latest title to move away from the shadow of Grand Theft Auto 6. CI Games has officially delayed the soulslike sequel from its original fall release window to the first quarter of 2027.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), CI Games CEO Marek Tymiński explained the reasons behind the delay. According to Tymiński, the delay is based on both development needs and release timing. He pointed to the crowded release calendar as a key factor behind the decision. He said, “This updated release window also strategically positions Lords of the Fallen II outside of a highly competitive holiday period, ensuring the game receives the dedicated attention it deserves.”
He also revealed that the studio has been working with a group of experienced soulslike players who provided feedback and ideas to further refine and strengthen the overall experience. Tymiński added, “These enhancements will benefit from additional integration, iteration, and polishing time, enabling the team to deliver the highest possible quality at launch.”
The decision comes as more publishers look for ways to avoid launching close to GTA 6, which is scheduled to arrive on November 19. While CI Games did not mention GTA 6 directly, the timing of the delay is hard to ignore. The last quarter of the year is already packed with major releases, including Marvel’s Wolverine, Control Resonant, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword. With so many games arriving during the holiday season, studios like CI Games are choosing different release windows to make sure their games get enough attention.
