Weekly Mobile & Gacha Roundup: Anime GTA Hijacks The June Charts

June is kicking off, and the open-world game that gacha players have been tracking for months has catapulted into the upper tier. The game’s AI usage allegation has drawn its fair share of mixed community sentiment; nevertheless, its promise of anime-styled city life has successfully converted curiosity into big momentum this month. This week’s charts cover June 1 to 5, and are based on estimated top-grossing rankings from Sensor Tower and AppMagic. Note that the figures below combine estimates across both Android and iOS.

Mega Mewtwo X and Y and Mega Medicham Raids are still helping Pokémon GO to hold on to its position from last month. But now that Neverness to Everness is past its first month, the ‘anime GTA‘ has officially caught up to the big leagues. After occasionally popping up, it completely hijacks the global Top 10, and straight-up dominated the charts in Japan and Korea. Not to be outdone, however, the 10-year-old gacha titan Fate/Grand Order leapt back to show off its undying cultural relevance.

Interestingly, both the Fate franchise and Honkai: Star Rail are cooking up another collaboration for July, adding fan-favorite Gilgamesh and Rin Tohsaka in Patch 4.4 to HoYoverse’s sci-fi RPG. Players also seem to be ready to empty their Jades and Shards for the long-awaited Mortenax Blade, a meta-changing 5-Star Fire Nihility unit. Speaking of collaborations, crossover events are driving the revenue for many games this week. Even NetEase’s lesser-known mobile battle royale Knives Out is also enjoying big spending in Japan. All thanks to the Bleach collaboration that dropped right on June 1, giving fans an excuse to spend money on limited Ichigo, Rukia, Hitsugaya, and Yoruichi gear.

The launch of Mortenax Blade banner and anticipation for the second phase of the Fate crossover keep Honkai: Star Rail popular.

Here’s how major mobile and gacha games performed across key regions for the week of June 1 to 5.
