Ubisoft Rumored To Be Working On Assassin’s Creed 1 Remake After Black Flag Resynced

Ubisoft has already confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Black Flag will return with the Resynced remake this year. However, it may not be the only classic title making a comeback, as reports suggest Ubisoft is also working on more remake projects, with the biggest rumor pointing to a remake of the original Assassin’s Creed.

After Black Flag Resynced was officially revealed, insider Tom Henderson said it is not the only Assassin’s Creed remake in development, and now leaker “j0nathan” has supported that claim as well. The project has reportedly been in development for years, with active work going back to at least 2023. Talking about this, j0nathan said: “I heard it from a contact in 2023; normally, it’s AC1.”

Assassin’s Creed remake
Assassin’s Creed remake has reportedly been in development since roughly 2023.

When asked which studio could be handling the project, Ubisoft Bordeaux was mentioned as a possible option, mainly because the studio already has strong experience with the Assassin’s Creed franchise and understands the series well. However, he also explained that he is not completely sure, and even if that turns out to be true, Ubisoft Bordeaux is not part of the new Ubisoft division created to manage Assassin’s Creed.

The remake is expected to arrive after Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, which launches on July 9. Black Flag seems to be the main test for how Ubisoft plans to handle future remakes, so the success of Resynced could decide what happens next with the Assassin’s Creed remake.

Black Flag Resynced itself is being rebuilt from the ground up using the latest Anvil engine, with ray-traced lighting, global illumination, and improved water simulation. While the remake will not include the original multiplayer mode or the Freedom Cry DLC, Ubisoft has confirmed that the original 2013 version of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag will remain available for purchase for players who still want to play it.
