Next year will be the 30th anniversary of Final Fantasy VII‘s original release, the RPG that changed the landscape of gaming forever from its PS1 launch. The Final Fantasy VII Remake project has seen the original game divided into three parts to craft a modern and expansive remake of the beloved JRPG classic, and a new interview confirms the game is getting closer to a reveal.
Speaking with Automaton, game director Naoki Hamaguchi shared that “the game is already in a playable state, and right now, we’re in the final push phase”. Going further, Hamaguchi specifies that “I think it won’t be too long before we’re able to share some kind of update with everyone”. We know that the third part of the Final Fantasy VII Remake received a name internally last year, but it seems it won’t be long now until Square Enix are ready to officially reveal the game, along with its much-anticipated title.

It has been six years since the first part of Final Fantasy VII Remake launched on PlayStation 4, and two years since the release of its sequel Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on PlayStation 5. With four years between the first two games, we’d have expected to potentially see the third part of the Final Fantasy VII Remake project sometime in 2028, but it appears to be rapidly picking up pace in development, meaning we might see it sooner. Unlike the others, the third game will be releasing multi-platform following the huge success of the recent Switch 2 release.
It would be a wonderful anniversary gift to see Final Fantasy VII celebrate its 30th birthday with the conclusion of Remake next year, but time will tell when it’s ready to go – and we’ll be sure to report on every update!
