Final Fantasy VII Remake’s Third Game Will Be Named This Year

The Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy project is nearing its end, after the successes of Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth set the stage for the third and final game. Fans have been eager to hear more on the third game, which remains so elusive it even remains unnamed. However, according to a new interview from Remake project director Naoki Hamaguchi (translated by Genki), the third game in the trilogy is set to receive a name this year, as the final two options for the title have been chosen behind the scenes.

In Hamaguchi’s own words, himself and fellow game director Tetsuya Nomura “have already narrowed it [the title] down to two… within the year it will be set”. What word will specifically be chosen for the title has long been a point of speculation for fans, especially given the first two games share a theme of words beginning with “Re-“, like in Remake and Rebirth. Thankfully we won’t have to scour our dictionaries for suitable words much longer, as the game’s leadership is closing in on deciding the final title.

The final game in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy is coming, with its name almost finalized.

That’s not all we heard on the final game in the Remake trilogy though, as Hamaguchi also shared that “game experience” for the third game is “more or less complete”, with development going smoothly to get it in the hands of the fans as fast as possible. Finally, he gives an important keyword to describe the third game in the trilogy – “Highwind”. Those familiar with the series will know that the airship Highwind is a key setting for several iconic scenes from the original Final Fantasy VII, which could be part of the reason for this specific choice of word.
