Starfield was first released on September 6 back in 2023, as a console exclusive for Xbox Series X|S and PC. Now though, after two and a half years, the game is finally coming to PlayStation 5 on April 7. To mark the announcement, Bethesda has released a new trailer detailing the PS5 and PS5 Pro features.
This release also includes all updates and features released since the original 2023 launch, alongside the major Free Lanes update and the brand-new Terran Armada story DLC. The new update brings several gameplay additions across all platforms, including the ability to fly your ship between planets, as well as new content such as Anchorpoint station, Cruise mode, and X-Tech features.

The PS5 version makes full use of the DualSense controller. The adaptive triggers change their resistance depending on the weapon, while the light bar changes color based on the player’s health and ship status, turning red when danger is near. The touchpad can be used to switch camera views, open the map, access the scanner, and quickly move through menus such as inventory, missions, and skills. In addition, the controller speaker plays audio logs and ship intercom communications directly through the DualSense.
For PS5 Pro, Bethesda has confirmed two display options. Players can choose 4K at 30 FPS for better visual quality or 60 FPS for smoother gameplay. Both modes make use of PSSR upscaling, which improves image quality while maintaining performance.
Bethesda also noted that “Starfield feels right at home on the PlayStation 5, with the console’s hardware helping every moment feel smooth and responsive as you explore the Settled Systems.” With full DualSense support, PS5 Pro upgrades, and a major content update available from day one, the PlayStation release looks set to become one of the biggest and best Xbox games to arrive on PS5 so far.
