Fans of Bethesda have long been waiting for more details to be given on the next major Starfield update, coming alongside its Terran Armada DLC. In a surprise drop that only gave fans an hour’s warning to prepare though, Bethesda just shared a developer deep dive on it all. Here’s all the best bits from today’s information drop you need to know – and it’s all coming on April 7, including the PlayStation 5 launch!
Let’s start with the free major update, titled Fast Lanes. Bethesda describes this patch as a “game-wide evolution”, which touches on every part of the Starfield experience from travelling the vastness of space, creating your outposts, customizing your ships to the content available in the late game, all along with new quests and vehicles. Some examples of new content were shown off, such as new buildable sections in outposts, interruptions to space flight with new events such as shipwrecks, combat interruptions and more. There are also new X-Tech materials, allowing for weapons to be enhanced with two new tiers for upgrading them too, plus new perks as they improve. Check out the full developer deep dive for more specifics.

As for paid DLC, the Terran Armada expansion adds an entirely new story, as the titular Terran group, an army of advanced robots that seeks to forcefully oppress humanity, invade the settled systems. The expansion brings a new storyline, a new Terran robot companion, and new rewards too. There will be more to discover through exploration and new repeatably playable content.
The Starfield Fast Lanes and Terran Armada DLC will be available on all platforms, alongside a PS5 launch, on April 7. The PS5 version will support the adaptive triggers of the DualSense, and will contain every previously released major update and quality of life improvements. The Standard Edition will cost $50, whilst the Premium Edition costs $70 and includes all story DLC, Creation Credits, a Constellation skin pack and a digital artbook and soundtrack.
