Can’t get enough of crunchy Game Boy-style pixel art? Ever waste hours in Pokémon just biking around while listening to its catchy chiptunes? If your answer is yes to both, then Petal Runner, an upcoming slice-of-life RPG from Nano Park Studios and iam8bit Presents, might be worth adding to your wishlist. While the 2026 Wholesome Direct only featured a brief new trailer, it was enough to offer another glimpse into the game’s retro-flavored solarpunk world.
Set in the coastal metropolis of Sapphire Valley, the game follows Cali and their foxy companion Kira as they pursue their dream of becoming the titular Petal Runners. They work as specialized motorcycle couriers tasked with delivering and installing the latest generation of digital pets created by the HanaPets Corporation. Unlike many RPGs focused on combat and grinding levels, Petal Runner is more interested in letting its players soak in the adventures that happen between destinations.

You will be able to explore the bustling city at your own pace, taking on all kinds of side jobs and inevitably finding yourself caught up in all kinds of unexpected situations. Those can range from participating in impromptu dance lessons, ghost hunts, and missing-person cases, to concerts gone wrong, as well as many other forms of shenanigans. As navigating through highways and scenic back roads is part of the appeal, Cali’s motorcycle also plays a huge role in the day-to-day activities. Best of all, you don’t even have to hop off the bike to converse with locals — just stop beside them and chat away!
Beneath the bright neon, Pokémon-inspired pixel art, and laid-back atmosphere, however, Petal Runner appears to have more going on than meets the eye. While Cali and Kira spend their days delivering goods, something suggests there may be secrets buried within HanaPets Corporation, the company that built Sapphire Valley itself.
With the retro pixel visuals done by Brandon “BJGpixel” James Greer, and story contributions from writer Adam Dolin, whose credits include God of War and Horizon: Forbidden West, Petal Runner is currently in development for PC with a planned Steam Deck compatibility. If you’re interested in getting an early taste of the solarpunk adventure, the free Steam demo that lets you roam around the North Valley area is available to download.
