Every Thursday, Famitsu releases a weekly chart that tracks physical boxed game and console sales in Japan. This week’s chart covers May 25 to May 31, as Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream refuses to leave the top spot even as new games release. Selling an additional 52,000 copies, the Switch release kept #1 on the chart and has now sold over 1.259 million copies physical in Japan alone.
In second place is 007 First Light, selling 20,000 copies during its release week on the PlayStation 5. Typically we see PS5 games sell a lot lower than Switch titles when it comes to Japan’s physical gaming market, but it’s not often that a game keeps its ruling place for six consecutive weeks like Tomodachi Life has. The wacky simulation game started huge with over 560,000 copies sold at launch, and remains popular now almost two months later!
Even with the major James Bond game release and new JRPG Utawarerumono: Past and Present Rediscovered, only 8,000 PS5 consoles sold in the past week in Japan. This is low compared to Switch 2 with over 31,000 consoles sold, but the PS5 is much older.

Here’s the full Famitsu game sales chart for the week of May 25 to May 31, along with the lifetime Famitsu tracked sales of each game.
